What does it cost to adopt from China?Adoption Fees for Young Infants or Toddlers - We would anticipate the total fees that a family adopting from China will encounter to be between $17,000 and $23,000. In providing families with the expected fee range, we include anticipated costs for immigration filing, home study, dossier preparation, country fees, translations and courier services, travel to China, accommodations overseas, and post placement services. KAS is committed to keeping adoption fees as low as possible, and you will find our fees among the lowest in the nation. We can only be responsible for the fees charged directly by KAS and for the agency we network with; although we do not anticipate any adoption fees to change, fees charged by other entities may be changed at their sole discretion. Kentucky Adoption Services, Inc. Agency Fees: $5,000.00
$2,500 of which is paid to KAS directly. $2,500 of which is paid to our networking partner in installments. International Fees: $5,020.00
Estimated Travel Costs: $3,080.00 - $4,400.00
Home Study & Post-Placement Fees: $1,550.00 - $3,000.00Home study fees are determined by the agency you choose and are paid directly to that provider. KAS can provide home study services to families across Kentucky. KAS charges $1550 Home study fee, along with $200 per post-placement. Due to the length of the program, Homestudy Updates will also be required every 18 months. Please call or eMail the office to request a Guide to Services, which will include more detailed information about the services and fees for KAS. Post-Placement Translation Fee: $200.00It is necessary for the 6 month and 12 month post-placements to be translated and sent to the China Center for Adoption Affairs. The fee for this translation is $100 per post-placement and the total of $200 is due after arrival home. USCIS Fees & Fingerprinting: $670.00 Form FeeCitizenship and Immigration Services charges $670 to process the I-600A. This check is made payable to USCIS and sent with the I-600A application. Please note: CIS charges an additional $525 for a second, unrelated child. This is payable to the US Embassy in Guatemala. Fingerprinting Per Person: $80.00Citizenship and Immigration Services charges $670 to process the I-600A, as well as $80 per person, for fingerprinting. This check is made payable to USCIS and sent with the I-600A application. Dossier Legalization Expenses: $650.00 - $1,200.00After securing the notarized documents to be included in your dossier, it is necessary to obtain state certification seals and then to obtain your authentication from the State Department and the China Embassy/Consulate. In our experience the Secretary of State fees range from $0 - $20, with the majority of states charging $5 - $10. The State Department charges $6 per document and the China Embassy/Consulate charges $20 per document for regular service and $40 per document for expedited service. In addition, a Courier Service for hand delivering the documents to the State Department and the China Embassy is included in the estimate and is typically $15 per document. KAS also offers an Optional Dossier Legalization Service; please call or eMail the office for details about this service. Miscellaneious Fees: $500-$1,200We advise families to include an additional $500 (minimum) toward miscellaneous and unexpected expenses when planning for any adoption. Families will have to obtain a visa to travel to China and there are other similar expenses that may add up along the way. In addition, with the lengthening wait times for referrals families should be prepared to renew their homestudies and also to update their immigration paperwork, which further increases the cost. *Please note: All fees are subject to change and any fees not paid to KAS are not under the control or discretion of KAS. All fees paid to KAS are considered for services rendered and are not refundable. KAS contributes a small portion of the fees collected for Homestudies and for Agency Placement Fees to humanitarian aid. KAS donates significantly to humanitarian aid through a ministry in El Salvador, donations to orphanages and ministries in Guatemala, donations to an orphanage in China, donations to orphanages and ministries in Haiti, the orphanage KAS built in Haiti, the Hope for Children Project in West Africa as well as various projects worldwide. |
