Adopting from China: The China Adoption Program
Kentucky Adoption Services, Inc. offers adoption services in the People's Republic of China for the many children in need of a permanent family through a CCAA accredited agency. For Kentucky families KAS offers dossier preparation guidelines, assistance throughout the process and travel guidelines. KAS will also provide Homestudy and Post Placement services.
It is estimated that approximately 1 million to 3.5 million children in China reside in orphanages. The primary factors that make children in China available for adoption are the laws limiting family size. Most of the children are females, although males are occasionally available. Many children are abandoned; therefore, there is little to no background information available. However, the referral information will include a medical and social report from the time that the child had come into care. Most children are cared for in orphanages, although some are in foster homes.
Children Available for Adoption
The children that may be adopted from China range in age from infants to twelve years of age. Twins are very rarely available. Most of the children are healthy, although some may have medical conditions, as indicated. Many will have developmental delays due to their time in an orphanage, although several of our families have received referrals of healthy children cared for in foster homes. In addition, all families are encouraged to share their referral information with a physician specializing in the field of international adoption medicine. |
