Adopting from The Gambia: The Gambia Adoption Program

KAS is not accpeting application for the Gambia program at this time.

Kentucky Adoption Services, Inc. offers adoption services in the West African country of The Gambia.  The Gambia is a beautiful English speaking country with helpful individuals dedicated to the welfare of children in need in The Gambia.  This is a pilot program for both KAS and The Gambia.  This means that families must be flexible and have a positive attitude when changes or unexpected delays occur, as this is a very new endeavor and KAS staff will be learning about the timing of each step and the process.  

Children in need of families are typically abandoned infants or children who are orphaned by both parents with no extended family to care for them. The youngest children we expect to come home from The Gambia will be nine months, although families should be open to children up to 18 months of age.  KAS is actively seeking families for older children and/or those with special needs.   Gender requests will not be accepted for families with no children or those with children of both genders.  The adoption process will take approximately one year or less.  

KAS works directly with the Department of Social Welfare in The Gambia, who makes the referral for adoptive placement.  Although The Gambia has not signed on to the Hague Treaty for Inter-country Adoptions at this time, their adoption process is modeled to be Hague compliant.
