Adopting from Ghana: The Ghana Adoption Program
KAS is Pleased to offer adoption services from GHANA!
Kentucky Adoption Services, Inc. offers adoption services in the West African country of GHANA. Ghana is a beautiful English speaking country known for its friendliness. In spite of its progressive government a majority of the people in Ghana live in abject poverty. Traditionally in Ghana extended family members take on the responsibility for orphans; however because of the pervasive poverty and the number of orphans in Ghana this option is not often no possible.
This is a pilot program for KAS. This means that families must be flexible and have a positive attitude when changes or unexpected delays occur, as this is a very new endeavor and KAS staff will be learning about the timing of each step and the process. This is not an Infant program, although on occasion infant males or infant girls with special needs may become available. Toddlers, older children and sibling groups are in need of families. HIV+ children are available for adoption. Gender requests will not be accepted for families with no children. The adoption process will take approximately one year or less. The adoption process in Ghana involves the Department of Social Welfare and must be approved by this governmental entity. KAS has staff in Ghana that assist with adoption processing in an ethical and honest manner. Ghana is not a party to the Hague Convention on Inter-Country Adoptions at this time.
